Energy Leaks — Are You Haemorrhaging Energy?
So, let’s start with the basics. You’ve probably somewhere heard someone say, “everything is energy,” and they are not wrong. But what does it meaaaan?
From a scientific/quantum perspective, everything (including you) is made up of atoms, and those atoms are made of protons, neutrons and electrons, all in constant motion - stay with me. At an even deeper level, physics shows that what we think of as “solid” is mostly space, vibrating with energy at different frequencies.
As Einstein said:
“Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.”
I think we can agree he knew what he was talking about. I’m also here to say that you don’t need to fully understand it at the scientific level to start noticing how it shows up in your life.
Think of it this way: you have a biofield, or as I like to call it, an aura. It’s an invisible (to most people ;)) energy field surrounding you, constantly interacting with everything around you e.g. people, places, thoughts, even your phone in your pocket. When your biofield is vibrant and clear shall we say, you’ll feel aligned, energised, and resilient. When it’s weakened and depleted from the stresses of life, or tangled with energy that doesn’t actually belong to you, that’s when energy leaks start to take hold.
Here’s an analogy: imagine your energy like a car tyre. A well-inflated tyre carries you forward safely and smoothly, even if it has a few small punctures. But too many leaks, and you start losing pressure, grip, and control and trying to get from A to B becomes harder, slower, and quite frankly, more exhausting. Energy leaks work the same way: little ones may go unnoticed, but over time they sap your juicy life force, focus, and presence.
So when we talk about energy, we’re not just being abstract or “woo”, we’re talking about the very building blocks of life and reality itself.
And when you start paying attention, you’ll notice it everywhere… in how you feel after certain conversations, the environments you walk into, the thoughts you think, and the way you show up at work. Some things (and people, let’s be honest) leave you feeling full, clear, and energised. Others… completely drained.
What Are These Energy Leak Things, Then?
Energy leaks are exactly what they sound like: places or habits where your energy, focus, and vitality begin to leak (think like a bucket with holes in), often without you noticing. They can be tiny pinpricks in your daily life, or bigger holes that leave you feeling exhausted, scattered, or unmotivated.
Some of the most common I see in my work:
People: Certain people drain you, and not because they’re bad, sometimes it’s just that their energy doesn’t match yours (vibe mismatch), or they may be going through something themselves. Constant complaining, negativity, or emotional turbulence can leave your own field feeling deflated.
Environments: Physical spaces carry energy too. Crowded offices, cluttered desks, messy rooms, or noisy digital spaces (ahem social media) can pull on your energy, leaving you drained from scrolling and, more often, comparison.
Thoughts & Habits: Huge one. Repetitive worries, self-criticism, or overthinking are like tiny punctures in your tyre. Even daily habits like skipping meals, overworking, or not resting sap energy over time.
Emotional Residue: I see this the most, I’d say. Unprocessed emotions such as stress, resentment, grief, guilt, etc. linger in your bio-field and slowly drain you if not released. They also contribute to the lens through which you see the world, which is likely to be less vibrant.
Overcommitment & Boundaries: Saying yes when you want to say no (who can relate, huh?), or spreading yourself too thin, is like loading your tyre beyond capacity. Eventually, something gives.
…And the list goes on.
The good news? Once you notice your energy leaks, you can take action to plug them. Just like a tyre, your energy can be topped up, reinforced, and even upgraaaded to handle more aaand with less effort. It’s life-changing.
Plugging the Leaks
Not all leaks are obvious, but the key is awareness first. Notice when your energy dips, what situations or people trigger it, and how your body and mind feel in those moments. Once you spot the drains, you can take practical steps to restore your field:
Pause and reset during the day — even a few deep breaths or a short walk can help.
Set small boundaries — it’s okay to say no to what doesn’t serve you. In fact, its kinda vital.
Cleanse your energy field — simple techniques like visualisation, journaling, intention-setting, smudging your field, or an energy healing session such as Reiki can help release stagnant energy.
Recharge in ways that genuinely nourish you — time in nature, creative flow, movement, or some nice alone time (sooo underrated).
Work with a trained professional — therapy, energy healing, or somatic work can help release trapped emotions and patterns that distort the lens through which you see the world, giving you clarity and resilience in ways self-practice sometimes can’t.
Energy leaks, to some extent, are normal in modern life. But left unplugged, remember they’re like tiny punctures in your tyre…slowly sapping your pressure, grip, and control, until even simple tasks feel heavy and exhausting.
Your energy is an offering, not a given. Saying no is saying yes to yourself, and you can’t show up fully for anyone if you’re depleted. You deserve it, hunnie.
